Apparently I've lurking around these parts for over 3 years...

What's changed since then...

When I started I was still a crazed teen in high school, without a clue. I didn't know where I was going and what I was going to do when I got there, I had a terrible design portfolio. Finished Highschool and had to look for a direction, I chose the design industry, taking on a tafe course in Applied Design, from there went onto doing Multimedia Design. Over all this time ive been looking for the design area I actually fit in. Seems to be web, because at the moment, im working 4 days a week at a webdesign studio www.sct.com.au and 1 day still back at uni.

Its odd, right now I'm actually doing video editing for their new Content Management System,
bleh.... I cant blog to save my life.

Greetings.

I thought I might entertain you all with an update on how my industry placement is going.
For those of you not in the loop, I'm doing Multimedia Design at University, and part of completing my course with honours entails me doing 12 months of industry placement. Currently im 4 months into it.

I'm doing my placement at a trendy web design studio called Square Circle Triangle, AKA SCT [link]
I was a little hesitant at doing web based placement for a whole year, because I have a habit of switching between all mediums, that's why multimedia appeals to me so much.

SCT is a small web studio that handles big clients, we have a crew of 2 back-end developers, 2 front-end designer / coders and 1 who does all of the above. There is also the 2 bosses, one of which is the Creative Director; And also a SEO wizard / Project Manager.

Although SCT is small, it has a number of big clients such as mirvac.com [link] (Australia's largest property developer with hundreds and hundreds of sites), [yellow tail] wines www.yellowtailwine.com (Aus' biggest wine exporter), Ted Grabeau tedgrambeau.com [link] (An amazing photographer, lots of his work is used by Ripcurl) and the most exciting part of SCT is Blocks, an inhouse designed and built, fully scalable CMS system which runs all the above mentioned sites. Its pretty crazy and still in its infancy. (It will go gangbuster, trust me).

I'm going to bed, will finish this post off tomorrow!

I demand satisfaction.

And that you check out my showreel: [link]

I cant post it on DA until I resolve copyright music issues.

Feedback, k, thx, bye.

Dear Me,

        Happy 21st Birthday.

How the heck are you?
  • Mood: Happy Tears
I thought I would entertain you guys with a final update, because my journey at Ripcurl is coming to an end. Today is my last day. Im not sure if I had mentioned this before, but my internship at the surfing giant is unpaid.  A whole month of work, for free....but of course theres the experience and the adventure of it all, so in that respect, its been priceless.

And to top it off, im going on a spending spree at lunch, I have some store credit (alot), and im not afraid to use it (all). Its my dads birthday today too.
Horray!

Photos coming soon.
  • Mood: Happy Tears
Thought I would entertain you guys with another update, this is update number 02, its main purpose is to separate update 01 from 03.

The weather here has been cold, windy, wet and sunny. I think Torquay suffers a bit of "Melbourne Weather-itus". 4 seasons in one day is a good way to explain it. Ive been going home on the weekends to catch up with friends and family (but primarily to stock up on supplies), and to see the new batman movie the Dark Knight (how totally awesome).

As for work, ive been stuck "clipping" out vast numbers of product images, not exactly what I had hoped for, considering the job is web based. Although you can argue that all the images are going online, I was ultimately hoping they would ask me to test out the new laser beamed hover surfboard, its still in the works, so I cant talk too much about it.

Although I have not learnt all together that much so far, the experience of working around teams of people and the atmosphere is totally worth it. If you guys ever get the chance to do something similar I would jump on it.

P.S Being really tall makes people assume you play basketball, and rightly so in my case. Last night I was asked to play for the Ripcurl team (not too sure what were actually called). We won of course by 10 points, and I scored 10 or so points, so we can assume I was the vital team member.

Thats enough ramblings from me.

So 2 days in with ripcurl. Massive office, laid back environment, just as you would expect. People talking about new products, videos, surfboards, surfers all that jazz.

This morning the temperature was probably about 4 degrees, so it was fricking freezing where im staying, which is a caravan park next to the beach, funny and awesome at the same time. (And also freezing, thankgod for heaters). The van im staying in is literally a stones throw away from the water. (sorry to the people in the water). lol

So they've put me to work doing some flash stuff, implementing a a flash "flipbook" setup for some online catalogues, the summer seasons wear. I will hook you guys up with the link when it goes live.

Untill my next update, stay safe...... and warm.
P.S. 40% OFF CLOTHES. Whoohoo Its time for a change of wardrobe.

Thanks to the dudes and dudettes over at Vraw [Link] I've been lucky enough to score myself an internship with the people at RipCurl Australia [Link].

For those living outside Australia, and under a rock, Ripcurl is a massive surf/skate clothing brand based out of Torquay, Victoria. They have their Head Quarters a stones throw away from a little beach knows as Bells. That beach is also renowned as a world surf title venue.

Where ever I do go, as does my camera, so I assure you a number of new "pretty" pictures that you can print off and hang above your mantle piece. (how odd of you)
